The World Federation of Right to Die Societies is an umbrella organisation, linking some 53 Right to Die Society Members & their branches in 26 countries. Together with Right to Die Europe, the World Federation’s European Division with 25 Members, these organisations serve all those groups working for individual rights to self-determination at life’s end. Membership of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies is open to all Societies having Members or Supporters, having a Board or Committee which performs executive functions on their behalf, & whose main Object is consistent with the Objects of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies.

Associate Membership is open to Societies whose primary focus is not Right to Die issues but who support the Objects of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies, for example Human Rights organisations. Associate Members have no vote.

Memberships may be granted on an interim basis, to be confirmed at the next Members’ general meeting.

At present, the annual fee for Membership or Associate Membership of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies is calculated (currently subject to a minimum of US$50 and a maximum of US$1,000) as 1% of the applicant’s own annual income from membership fees. Concessions may be agreed for impecunious Societies.

European Members & European Associate Members of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies may apply to join Right to Die Europe, at present without further fee.

The Objects of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies are to:

(a) promote the cause of self-determination in dying by making representations to any appropriate international organisation & by commissioning & publishing research into any aspect of that issue;
(b) provide a means for exchange between member organisations;
(c) promote co-operation & liaison between organisations whose aim is to advance the individual’s right to self-determination in dying;
(d) promote & hold international conferences;
(e) encourage the formation of organisations with similar aims in countries where they do not exist.

The Objects of Right to Die Europe are:

1. To strengthen the movement in Europe for choice in dying.
2. For that purpose to encourage the formation of societies in those countries which lack them.
3. To share the knowledge & experience of member societies with other societies.
4. To represent at the appropriate European organisations the interests of those who wish to have choice in dying.
5. To oppose those who wish to deny self-determination at the end of life.
6. To campaign for the legal recognition of living wills.
7. To seek social acceptance & legal recognition in Europe of self-determination in dying.
8. Such other activities as shall be conducive to the furtherance of the above objects.

Popular features of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies & Right to Die Europe are the series of international meetings held annually in Europe or elsewhere. These meetings offer individual members a chance of live networking, collective solidarity, and an opportunity to establish contacts & make like-minded friends worldwide.
