Letter to board and board members
2011/12/04 - 13:54
Dear colleagues, board members of the RtDE movement,
Since Mondorf the new board is working hard on drawing up a statement of assets and liabilities.
When we asked for a treasurer in Mondorf no one was available but, fortunately, Michael Irwin offered to join the board as the treasurer. We are very happy with his offer, as you can imagine. He was not able to stand for it in Mondorf for, due to an illness, he couldn’t attend the RtDE meeting in September. I asked all of you to react on our proposal to invite him to join the board at interim until the end of November and after that as a full member. We are happy that none of the societies reacted in a negative way, so the board is on full power now:
Aycke Smook MD, De Einder NL president
Nathalie Andrews, ADMD-B / Fate secretary
Michael Irwin MD, Soars treasurer
Mireille Kies, ADMD-L member
Flemming Schollaart, EVD member
(Michael will step down as treasurer of WFRtDS in June 2012 in Zürich.)
In Mondorf we voted for a more independent connection to the WFRtDS, financially and organizationally, so we are now more on our own. That stands for a change in donating our contribution in order to create our own budget.
Some Societies already donated to RtDE, while they also continued their dues to WFRtDS.
Our plans are:
• To make it clear that we need a financial contribution to RtDE to have our own financial prospective. Shortly you will be informed by our treasurer how he would like to realize this. At the moment all the contributions go to the WFRtDS and a small amount is refunded to RtDE. For instance the organization of the Mondorf conference was subsidized with US$ 2000.-
• Application for NGO Status with the Council of Europe.
• Development of Right-to-Die Societies in countries where there is no society at the moment (neighbouring existing Societies might be willing to assist?). For instance: Portugal, Austria and former East European countries like Hungary, Greece and others.
• Support for a ‘European Euthanasia Day’ (November 2nd) already founded in Paris in 2008. This year DGHS and ADMD-F organized this event in Berlin and in the south of France. Where next in 2012?
• Supporting financially specific projects in existing “young” and “poor” European societies.
• To create a fund to finance such an initiative with help of the larger Societies.
• To renew and update our Website (at the moment Patrick Brücher of ADMD-L is working on it).
• To explore the needs and proposals of our member Societies.
